Gizmo, one of the four kittens Alison & Benjamin are fostering. |
Alison has resumed our fostering, after a short break, and this time it's kittens! Four kittens to be precise, including Gizmo pictured above. There is also Gadget, Spitfire and Moonbeam - all of whom I hope to feature in their own blog story this week.

Benjamin lost his wisdom this weekend. That's right. All four of his wisdom teeth came out Friday. He has been a little groggy and home-bound this weekend, but otherwise recovering nicely. He has consumed a large amount of mashed potatoes. We normally use real potatoes, but we went with the flake stuff to get a smoother consistency.

The dentist who did the surgery was a specialist in St. Simons, so both Alison and I went to help with transport and helping him. We thought the whole thing would take an hour or more, but once he got back for the surgery, it only took about twenty minutes. Alison had taken the car to nearby grocery store Harris Teeter, and I had to call her back from that, as he was done MUCH sooner than we expected.

My normal routine is to write fiction on Fridays. I am currently trying to finish up my second big writing project, Crowley Stories:Swamp's Edge. What with Benjamin and the dental surgery, I tried to move my writing Friday to Saturday.
No such luck. I was completely writer blocked Saturday, one of the few times in the last few years I have felt that. The story in my head just wasn't coming out.
So, after some frustration, I decided to change my goal for the day. I entered one of my poems into a writing contest. And I finally launched a story through Create Space, the Amazon publishing tool. The result is that Through the Closet and Into the Woods is now available on Amazon for purchase, at the whopping price of $0.99! It's just an eshort, a little more than 5,000 words, but it is an entertaining little story, an office fantasy/romance. So far, I have sold 8 copies and earned $2.80! Yes, Alison and I are picking out our retirement condo in Traverse City!

I wrote a blog story about political hypocrites that featured the Duggars, trying to stay current, when the Dennis Hastert story broke. This former Speaker of the House had given over 3 million dollars in bribe money to somebody, allegedly to keep silent about sexual misconduct when he was a high school coach. I just can't keep up with political and social hypocrisy.

No new movies this weekend. We did make a dent in the DVR accumulation that occurred while I was busy with the play. iZombie has been particularly good. Benjamin and I caught up some with the Flash, but are still about six episodes behind.
--------------------------
I did see a marvelous children's production of I Never Saw Another Butterfly, put on by The Flying Dragon Art Center. The children did a wonderful job of telling this important story about children in the Holocaust. Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. You don't think so? Hate and resentment are stronger in our culture than many of us want to admit.

I did start reading Stephan King's book Revival, and I'm about 100 pages in. So far, I'm enjoying even more than I did two other recent books of his, 11/22/63 and Mr. Mercedes. It probably helps that he's writing about a character that is virtually my age, and started the book in the sixties. Ah, nostalgia. Even I hold victim to your sway sometimes.
Until next time,
T. M .Strait
