Yes, let's get this part out of the way right off.
Yes, I watch too much television. You don't need to bring that up. I like an hour or two of fictional television each night, mostly serial dramas and a small number of comedies.
Getting that out of our systems, here are my seven favorite ripping good yarns on right now:
#7) Supergirl. Granted, this is only based off the first episode, but so far, I'm really intrigued by the premise of this show, and it's take on the Superman family mythos. In many ways it's going back to the roots of the Superman story, as originally presented in the Golden Age comic, where Clark Kent cares about the poor and disadvantaged, and uses his reporting position as a bully pulpit, and his powers to take care of the exploited. I also appreciate, after ten years of Smallville, this series not being shy about showing the heroine in costume...and flying!
#6) How to Get Away with Murder. This is a true sudser with genuine surprises and no holds barred plotting. If you're looking for a show that has a pure, altruistic protagonist, this is not your show. But if you want one with energy and ecting plot twists, this is it! Props also to Scandal, another from mega-producer Shonda Rhimes, and the best alternate history/scifi show on right now (only valid until The Man in the High Castle is fully released).
#5) The Flash. This show has definitely sped up the ranks with it's introduction of Earth-2 and the original speedster, Jay Garrick. This show is a lot more fun and spirited than Gotham or Arrow.
#4) The Leftovers. This intriguing HBO program always raises more questions than it answers each episode. But I love it's interesting and mysterious diversions.
#3) Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. The best broadcast network drama on television. Nobody does story and characters better than Joss Whedon. The best strong, dynamic and interesting female characters on the networks are on this show.
#2) The Walking Dead. No show has a larger audience and more people talking about it. Is Glen alive? I think so, but we shall see.
#1) Fargo. From the cinematography, to the editing, plotting and characters, no show is put together better than this one. It will pull you in, and make it where you don't want each episode to end. My highest recommendation.
