Signs of the Times
by Terry Pinder

No riding on the sidewalk.
No walking on the grass.
No smoking in the bathroom.
No chewing gum in class.

No wading in the fountain.
No swimming after dark.
No parking without permit.
No skating in the park.

No shoes, no shirt, no service
No posting on the walls.
No talking on your cellphone.
No running in the halls.

Maybe we can make new rules
And maybe change the tone.
And maybe do together
What one can't do alone.

Maybe we can make new signs
And hang them on the wall.
Maybe we can make this world
A better place for all.

Yes giving to the homeless.
Yes making sad folks smile.
Yes talking to the lonely.
Yes listening for awhile.

Yes reading books to children
Yes learning someone's name.
Yes helping out the helpless.
Yes treating all the same.

Yes helping hurt with comfort.
Yes caring with each breath.
Yes soothing with kindness.
Yes loving hate to death.
