This Is Me: Judge's Prize Student Poetry Winner 2016 OHC Writing Contest

I am way overdue sharing some of the winning entries from our very successful writing contest that the OHC Writer's Guild gave out last month.    Here is our Judge's prize for highest ranked Judge's entry that did not rand in the top 3 finalists.  It is written by Wayne County student Wendy Dominguez Canela.

This Is Me

This is a quiet person

Who is always at one's Service

Though that person does not socialize with others

The few that she does are like sisters or brothers

Or just those random people that she is comfortable with

The best thing about this person in that she is kind, caring, and understanding

She is unique in her sense of fashion and has the qualities of Aries by birth

A lot of time she has moved

But she has many accomplishments she can prove

She has a big family she can always count on

Even the ones that are miles away

She lives in a humble home filled with love

This person aspires to be a successful business owner

Or maybe even a teacher

While she looks plain with curly hair that can either be long or short

And eyes that can be comforting and warm or as cold as snow

She is confident and stands up for what she believes in

And never backs down from a fight

Her passion is music and dancing

Her talents are many and different from each other

She has been in many competitions

With a group of true friends that always have her back

She volunteers in a place where one can travel

Either to different states or countries

Or even different worlds

This place is full of knowledge and peace

She is a good friend and ally

But can be one's worst nightmare

She is a procrastinator which is why her grades suck

She tries to do better but sometimes forgets

That to prove people wrong she has to try hard to succeed in school
