The Strait's Fun, Wonderful, Really Good Day

Benjamin has a fear of heights.  The first time he tried to go on the zip line (part of the Waycross Swampfesst), he got all the way to the top and then backed down without getting on the zip line.  Then we came back after seeing a movie, and he did it!  I was very proud of him, and he wanted to do it again, but Daddy did not want to lay out another ten bucks!

Another great part of the day was watching the Beck Girls dance with Dance Fusion at Waycross Dance Fest.  We don't have daughters or grand-daughters, but we have quasi-adopted the Beck girls as nieces, and it has been enjoyable watching their activities.

Meanwhile, while Benjamin and I were doing the Swampfest and seeing a movie, Alison went with her friend, Cheryl Watts-Jacobs, to Going Green Nursery in Screven, and brought back home some delicious, homegrown organic vittles.
Benjamin and I also got out to see a movie at a movie theater!  GI Joe  Retaliation was an intense action picture, fairly well done.  It wasn't something you wanted to think about too deeply  but it was an entertaining ride.  Even though cognitively I know that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is not a world class actor, I still enjoy his on-screen persona and the sense of humor he brings to roles. The man who filled that role in the nineties is also in this movie, Bruce Willis.  And Adrianne Palicki (who played Tara on Friday Night Lights) is very good as a tough, attractive GI Joe.

The creme de la creme of the day was attending Sherlock Holmes and the Case of The Flying Dragon .  It was a wonderful play, well written (by local talent Jason Chancey) and well performed.  All the cast was great, particularly the high energy, enthusiastic performance of our young Sherlock Holmes, Elijah Morris.  Watson was played by Elijah's Dad, Neil.  Having performed with Benjamin in a few plays, I know what a wonderful experience and honor that is for a father.

After the play we enjoyed a delicious dinner out at the local restaurant, Cavagnaro's, with the Becks and the Cooks.  It was a great joy to have friends to talk and socialize with.  Then after getting home, we continued our Sherlock Holmes theme by watching Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.  It was a fairly good movie, although my conception of Sherlock Holmes is more cerebral than action figure.

And for me, the evening was topped off by Michigan winning their semi-final against Syracuse, and moving to the tournament championship game.

Huzzah to a wonderful day!
