Ripping Good Yarns: Monday Fall TV 2014

No grid this year...they are too difficult to translate, and I don't have a good format to work from.

Here is the best of Monday:

Gotham is a brand new show on Mondays at 8 on Fox.  It is the origins of the Batman universe of characters, dating back to the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents.  It shoes a corrupt and dangerous city, with criminals vying to control the city.  We have see the first three episodes and we are impressed.  It's not as good a show as Agents of SHIELD (what is?), but it has a lot of potential.  Oswald Cobblepot  (The Penguin) and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) are the most interesting characters so far.

Sleepy Hollow has started Season 2 on Fox at 9. It is a fun, fast ride that Alison and I have enjoyed a good bit.  It now feature one of our very favorite actors, Jon Noble (well known as Walter on Fringe).  It also quietly has one of the best multi-cultural casts on television.  I don't know how sustainable its premise is for a very long run, but for right now, it's a great ride!

The Blacklist (Season 2) on NBC at 10 is a very intense show that Alison and I enjoy.  It has almost a big screen feel to it, and James Spader is amazing as Raymond "Red" Reddington .  Most of the time you don't know whether to love him or hate, but you are always fascinated by him.

ABC has Castle at 10,  starting season 7.  We watch this because of Nathan Fillion.  The relationship between him and Beckett is good, and so is his sense of humor.  The other characters and the plotting on this show?  Eh, not so much.

CBS has a new night for The Big Bang Theory....season 8 is at 8 PM.  A favorite among Rippers, Alison and I are way behind, and may have to wait until they finally decide to stream it.  Mom (Season 2) is at 8:30, and NCIS:Los Angeles (season 6 - lots of navy crime in LA, I guess) is at 10.  New show Scorpion is at 9, about a group of geniuses working together to crack difficult government cases.  Katherine McPhee stars, who I imagine sings less here than she did on Smash.

CW has season 2 of The Originals at 8, which is not really original, as it is a spinoff from The Vampire Diaries. 9 has new show Jane the Virgin, which is actually more interesting than it sounds.  Based on a Venezuelan telenovella, it has good pedigree, and promises to be entertaining and fast moving.  I'm going to probably at least sample it.

Later in the Fall, NBC will start State of Affairs at 10.  It is something about the CIA and stars Katherine Heigl as the chief agent and Alfree Woodard as the President of the United States.

Star Wars Rebels starts at 9 on Disney HD.  Why is that worth mentioning? It's the first of the Disney related material, and may give clues as to the direction of the nest Star Wars movie!

And that's Monday!  Stay tuned for Tuesday!
