I am very proud to present to you the first of our winners in our recent Okefenokee Heritage Center Writer's Guild Writing Contest!

The following story is by Desiree Higgs, a second grader in Ware County, and our first place Elementary story winner!

The Clever Monkeys and an Evil Lion

Once upon a time in the jungle all the animals were putting on a play.  There was a lion who wanted to eat the monkeys, so he made a plot.  It was an evil one too,

All the animals were ready to begin the play.  "It's about to begin!" said a monkey.

When it started the lion leaped out of his seat and instead of biting a monkey, he landed right in Mr. Hippo's lap.  He knew he was in big big trouble.  Mrs. Hippo slapped him with her purse!

The monkeys had a plot too.  Then they tied him with a rope.  "We win!" they said.  "Ha Ha,' said the lion, with a sad voice.
