Ripping Good Yarns: Tuesday Fall TV 2014

No grid this year...they are too difficult to translate, and I don't have a good format to work from.

Here is the best of Tuesday:

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, on ABC at 9 PM, (Season 2) is hands down the best show on network television.  There's no contest.  It's done by producer/creator Joss Whedon.  It faithfully follows and works alongside the Marvel movies.  It has a great cast led by fan favorite Phil Coulson (played by Clark Gregg).  As usual with a Whedonverse, every character is vibrant, rich and multi-layered. The dialogue is perfection, filled with witty moments, and the plotting is intricate and superb.  If you haven't seen it, but you love Ripping Good Yarns, get thee hence and watch!  And in today's muli-platform world, with DVR and streaming, there is no excuse to miss it.

The Flash speeds its way to the CW at 8 PM.  Done by the same team that does Arrow (one of TV's most rapidly improving shows), the special effects are very good for television, and it looks to be a little bit lighter than some of the super hero fare.  It also looks like it's going to be a little less afraid of costumes,  That's a relief to someone who thought that Smallville was a sporadically good show, but that holding back the costumes got a little old.

Sons of Anarchy, shown on FX at 10 PM, wraps up its run with Season 7.  I have only seen the first season, but hope to stream it sometime.  It is an intense drama about personal relationships and family done at an almost Shakespearean level.  Oh, and there's motorcycles.

ABC has surrounded my favorite show, Agents of SHIELD, with new shows that frankly don't sound all that promising.  Selfie at 8 PM, is all about social media and one young woman's obsession with it.  I saw one episode while i was on the elliptical bike -  I would have turned it off, but I didn't want to get off long enough to do it.  Manhattan Love Story is at 8:30, which Entertainment Weekly describes as little mini Woody Allen movies.  Uhhhh, ok.  At 10 is Forever, about a man who lives well, like, forever.  This show premiered to good ratings, but has been fading ever since.

CBS has an evening of procedurals, starting with Season 12 of NCIS at 8, the premiere season of NCIS:New Orleans (Scott Bakula takes a quantum leap into a new series).  What is going on in the Navy, anyways?  The evening concludes at 10 PM with the fourth season of Person of Interest

NBC has Marry Me, a new show at 9 PM.  It is a top pick on both TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly, so I may have to check it out. At 9:30 is the second season of About A Boy, and the evening winds up with Season 3 of Chicago Fire.

Fox has New Girl (Season 4at 9 PM and The Mindy Project (Season 3) at 9:30.  Alison and I watch New Girl, but I am losing interest, as the drinking and some of the drug use does not interest me.

In addition to The Flash, the CW has its most venerable show, Supernatural at 9 PM.  It is starting Season 10, which has to be some kind of record for a show of this type.  I have only seen the first season.  I think it stars one of Rory's boyfriends.

That wraps up another evening of television!  Three more nights to go!  (Saturday is now repeats and football, so it doesn't warrant a post).

Am I supposed to end an article with a sentence in parentheses?  (Probably not, but what the heck, live on the edge).
